E-Mail Delivery Info

e-Mail Delivery

CAS provides e-Mail delivery for small file transfers using MIME-encoded attachments. While less reliable than using FTP, e-Mail delivery is well suited for small files, file layout documentation, and job instructions.

Specifications for use of e-Mail delivery with CAS:

-While there is a limit of 25,000,000 bytes (25 Meg) on incoming e-Mail messages to dp.request@cas-online.com, CAS does not recommend attaching files larger than 10,000,000 bytes compressed (10 Meg) in size.

-Attached files MUST be encoded using the 8-BIT MIME encoding scheme used for small files. PGP encryption of files is available - must be setup and approved prior to delivery.

-All incoming files must be compressed (ie. PKZIP, WinZIP, GZip). All outgoing files will be compressed using PKZIP. - e-Mail delivery of processed jobs to the client is restricted to non-web-based email addresses.

-e-Mail is most commonly used with a client program, such as Eudora, Outlook, Outlook Express, PegasusMail, Netscape Mail, and Lotus Notes.

Consult with your Support personnel on the proper setup and use of your e-Mail client program. CAS cannot provide support for your e-Mail server and/or client.

FTP

File Transfer Protocol RFC959 is the IETF specification for client-server file transfer, universally known as FTP. Prior to the introduction of the World Wide Web, FTP was the primary method of exchanging files with a remote server via the Internet. It is still used where:

-uploading and downloading of data files

-restricted access may be required

-the service predates WWW and was never changed.

Specifications for use of FTP delivery with CAS:

CAS does not recommend transferring a file larger than 500,000,000 bytes (500 Meg) for performance reasons.

Should you wish to send us files larger than 500 meg, please consider 3480/3490 cartridge or CD-ROM as the media.

All incoming files should be compressed (ie. PKZIP, WinZIP, GZip).

All outgoing files will be compressed using PKZIP.

PGP encryption of files is available and must be setup and approved prior to transfer.

Contact your Support Personnel on how to install and operate your FTP client software. CAS cannot provide support for your FTP server and/or client.
